Antwerp sits on the estuary of the river Schelde and is the largest port in Belgium and it was here in the 1980's that Belgian brewing began its modern revival.

The city is dominated by the de Konninck brewery with it's draught pale ale served in a glass known locally as a "bolleke".

The region around Antwerp is mainly known for Duvel and the abbey beers of Westmalle.

Between Brussels and Antwerp lies Mechelen, arguably rivalling Bruges in architectural brilliance.

This was the one time home of Hapsburg Emperor Charles V and northern capital of his empire. On Keizerstraat the palaces of Margaret of Austria and Margaret of York are a testament to the city's 16th Century political significance.

Our base is Belgium's only brewery hotel, Carolus.

"Some people love it so much it's like a cult, but it still has to be considered a specialty beer because Orval's limited production. It's not Miller Lite − thank God." − Charles Finkel, of Merchant Du Vin (importers of Orval)
