The term "Shabby Chic" was made for Brussels, a project centuries in the making but as yet incomplete.

The greatest influences on the cityscape are the ornate Gothic buildings in and around the Grand Place; the elegant residences and grand arcades of the Art Nouveau; and the political structures of modern Brussels.

The local beer style is Lambic, spontaneously fermented by wild yeast although only Cantillon remains within the city.

Home to the HQ of AmBev, or whatever they are calling themselves these days. Luckily the global giant is not the only source of refreshment in this large university town.

The architectural highlights are on the Grote Markt where the cathedral and impressive Gothic town hall are spectactularly lit at night. The student population of Leuven is well catered for making for a great party atmosphere.
